At the Guildhall Art Gallery, women appear throughout the City of London’s art collection: sometimes at the centre of a painting, sometimes quietly in the background and sometimes as the creators behind the works themselves. This guided tour explores the collection through a female lens, revealing figures who are often overlooked. We will encounter muses and sirens who inspired artists, Victorian trailblazers, refugee artists, medieval artisans and even Roman female gladiators. Together they offer a fresh perspective on the Guildhall collection and the many roles women have played through history.
