Pauline Rees kindly organised a 'Hands on Gardening Group 2' visit to the Meadway Allotment in Ruislip. This was on the 11th August and we were given a guided tour. We were shown Pauline's unusual Goji Berry climbing plant and her Cucamelon plant. Interestingly and despite their name, Cucamelon is not a cross between a cucumber and a watermelon plant, but rather a distinct plant within the cucumber family. They are native to Mexico and Central America, where they’ve been cultivated for centuries. However, we did enjoy tasting them. The Goji Berry is a small, bright red-orange fruit native to Asia. Packed with antioxidants, vitamins A and C, and essential amino acids. 

it was a very interesting tour especially seeing how trees are grown in containers. We also saw the different kind of  plant supports and their two garden composters, They had some eye catching combinations of deep magenta Dhalia and yellow and brown Rudbeckia.

It was a very hot day so at the end of our tour, we sat in the shady part of the allotment and had a lovely picnic with homemade lemon biscuits and cake provided by Pauline. A big thanks to Pauline for making this possible.
